Now, we don’t advocate doing this on the cheap, you need trained piano movers to get your piano around London; true purveyors or of piano logistics if you will, but you shouldn’t need to re-mortgage your house to do this. That said…
There are two ways to move your prized piano and one of them is free…
You could do it yourself with some friends…but here’s why you shouldn’t!
It might seem like a really good idea, a cheap alternative, but just think about it for a moment. The average piano weighs between 200 and 450 kilograms and grand pianos go up to 900 kilograms (and that is the weight of a female giraffe just to put it into perspective!).
You need people with handling experience to move pianos of this size and weight. We’ve been called to jobs where you turn up and you think “why have you put your piano there?! And then you realise that it’s only there because three over-confident, under-experienced well-meaning friends have tried and failed to move it.
We’ve had stuck pianos, jammed pianos and broken pianos as a result of this, but we’ve also seen broken bones, pulled muscles, crushed body parts and injured backs as a result of not calling in the professionals; just don’t do it yourself!
